Review
Wipe is a great utility that restores your privacy after browsing the web. This tool erases the traces you leave behind, thus avoiding preventing tracking of your activity. It clears your browsing history, index.dat files, removes cookies, cache, logs, deletes temporary Internet files, autocomplete search history and any other tracks left after using the computer. No useful documents are deleted, it only clears the records of your activity.
When launched, Wipe performs a system scan in order to detect all the programs installed on your computer. Afterwards, it displays a list of all the supported programs and the items you can delete from them. It includes Firefox, Internet Explorer, Windows Media Player, WinRAR, QuickTime and Outlook Express, and deletes usual items like cookies, history, recent document lists and auto-complete entries, among others. Wipe doesn't actually display the individual elements to be erased, nor does it let you filter them in any way. The fact that it deletes cookies may be considered a downside of the program, because you may not want to delete all of them. You can erase complete lists with a click on the "Delete" button, and also erase only specific items by right-clicking on them. The latest version of Wipe is 2.3, but the review and screenshots apply to version 2.18. |
